The film was expected to be directed by Hari, who would have made his sixth collaboration with Suriya after Aaru (2005), Vel (2007), and the Singam franchise, but he eventually dropped out of the project without disclosing his reasons. He later collaborated with Suriya in another film, which was titled Aruvaa and was produced by Studio Green, but he did not reveal his reasons for leaving the project. However, this project was also shelved, and Suriya instead chose to work on a film with Pandiraj, rather than on a Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers with either Adanga Maru director Karthik Thangavel or an unidentified Telugu filmmaker. In the past, Pandiraj has collaborated with Suriya, whose production business 2D Entertainment has supported his projects Pasanga 2, in which the latter appeared as a supporting character, and Karthi's Kadaikutty Singam Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers .
Suriya 40 is the title of the project, which refers to Suriya's 40th film as a lead actor; it is also Pandiraj's second collaboration with the production house, following their collaboration on the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Namma Veettu Pillai. The project was announced on the occasion of Dusshera (25 October 2020), and it will be released on the same day.
Instead of his previous films, which were built on family emotions and sentiments, this one is being billed as an action-drama film with a strong emphasis on commercial themes. According to reports, Pandiraj penned the novel, which is based on the sexual assault case that occurred in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, in 2019. It was formally confirmed on the eve of Suriya's birthday (22 July 2021) that the film would be titled Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers, which is a reference to the 1976 film of the same name, which starred Suriya's father, Sivakumar, in the major role Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers .
Casting OF Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers
According to reports in November 2020, Rashmika Mandanna would be cast as the female lead, although Pandiraj categorically denied the rumours concerning the casting process.
In January 2021, the production house stated that D. Imman will compose the soundtrack for it, following previous collaborations with Pandiraj, Kadaikkutty Singam, and Namma Veettu Pillai Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers .
This is Imman's first work with Suriya, and the film commemorates their first meeting.
In the same month, Priyanka Arul Mohan was confirmed as the female protagonist, marking her second Tamil film after Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor (2021), and Sathyaraj was also cast in a supporting role. Priyanka Arul Mohan was cast as the female lead in the same month.
Rajkiran has also been confirmed as a part of the film, reuniting with Suriya after two decades since their last appearance together in Nandha (2001).
Following their previous cooperation in Aadhavan (2009), Vadivelu was rumoured to be working with Suriya, however Soori was eventually confirmed to be a part of the cast of the film.
According to reports, he would play the part of the heroine's uncle in the Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers .
Despite rumours that Sarathkumar and Prasanna were being considered for the role of the antagonist in the film, Vinay Rai was cast in the role.
Saran Sakthi played a character in the film that had a lot of negative aspects to him.
There are 40 key characters in the film, according to reports, and they include actors like Jayaprakash, Saranya Ponvannan, and Devadarshini, among many more.
Director-actor K. P. Jagan said that he would be a part of the film and that he would join the second schedule, which would begin in early September of 2021 Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers .
Filming OF Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers
The film premiered on 15 February 2021 with the participation of the primary cast and crew members, with the exception of Suriya, who was absent due to his diagnosis with COVID-19.
Only a few scenes with the ensemble cast were shot without Suriya's participation.
Suriya began filming for the film on March 18, 2021, after completing his recovery from COVID-19. He confirmed his participation in the film by posting a still from the set of Binny Mills in Chennai on his social media accounts. Following a tight timetable that lasted only 21 days, the crew travelled to Madurai, India, to film important sequences in April of 2021. Although it was planned to film an action sequence with a large audience, the idea was scrapped due to restrictions imposed by the Tamil Nadu government as a result of the second wave of COVID-19. The decision was made in the interest of the safety of the crew members working on the film. It was late April 2021 when the COVID-19 lockdown was implemented, and 35 percent of the film's shooting had been finished at that point.
Following the lifting of the COVID-19 lockdown on the 12th of July, 2021, production on the film began again.
The team recorded a few sequences in Chennai rather than Karaikudi, which saved money.
At the middle of the shooting schedule, Victor, who worked as an assistant to Pandiraj, was apprehended by the police in Koyambedu, where they seized the guns and pistols that were subsequently discovered to be fake.
He was held because he lacked the necessary documentation for licensure. The team travelled to Karaikkudi in mid-July 2021 to shoot a 51-day programme that included critical sequences, which was completed by the end of September 2021. The team then travelled to Courtallam, India, for the last and brief schedule of the film, which will take place in the middle of September 2021.
At the end of the month, it was rumoured that two of the songs will be shot in Chennai and Goa by October 2021, and that the team may be able to wrap up filming after that.
However, one song, directed by Jani Master, had to be postponed since it needed to be shot in a big fashion, with a large star cast, and also had significant dance moves, which required more time. Consequently, the cast was given additional time to prepare. The production of the film was completed on November 10, 2021, with the completion of the patchwork scenes, and Pandiraj announced the end of the film on his Twitter account. Following the completion of the film, Suriya presented gold coins worth Rs. 1 crore (US$130,000) to the performers and technicians who had contributed to making it a memorable experience for the entire crew.
Release OF Etharkkum Thunindhavan Jio Rockers Jio Rockers
The film was originally slated for a Christmas weekend release on December 24, 2021.
This would conflict with Allu Arjun's Pushpa: The Rise and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The makers of Sun Pictures' other production, Vijay-starrer Beast (2022), intended for a release on that festival as the problems in post-production meant the picture would not be released inside Christmas. On November 19, 2021, it was revealed that the film would be released on February 4, 2022. The film will also be dubbed in Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam.
