Rafael Nadal wins Australian Open, equaling his Grand Slam record
Rafael Nadal has won the Australian Open, breaking a tie with Novak Djokovic
and Roger Federer for the most Grand Slam titles in men's singles tennis
history.Nadal won his 21st Grand Slam title on Sunday,
defeating world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev 2-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
Nadal won the Australian Open after coming back from two sets down.
"To share the night with you has been an honour," Nadal told Medvedev after the match.
It was never a given that Nadal would win the Australian Open. He's had issues with his knees and Müller-Weiss disease,
which causes chronic pain in the middle of the foot. He withdrew from Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics in June
after "listening" to his body, and in October he said he wasn't sure when he'd return to the pro tour.
