Mythri Movie Makers, who previously cooperated with Sukumar on the film Rangasthalam, formally announced the project, which was initially named #SSMB26, in mid-April 2019. This marks Mythri’s second collaboration with Babu and Sukumar after their previous cooperation on Rangasthalam.

As the film is set in Rayalaseema and Nellore, and the narrative focuses on the smuggling of red sanders, he himself went out on site scouting in Nallamala Forest to find suitable locations.
