A dramatic action film from the Telugu period in India, RRR is set to be released later this year and is directed by S. S. Rajamouli and produced by D. V. V. Danayya of DVV Entertainments. Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, and Olivia Morris feature in the film, with N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, and Alison Doody playing supporting parts. Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson, and Shriya Saran also appear in the film as supporting characters.
In the film, two Indian rebels, Aluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bhim (Rama Rao), battle against the British Raj and the Nizam of Hyderabad, respectively, in a fictionalised account.

The storyline for the film was written by Rajamuli based on the original narrative, which was penned by KV Vijayendra Prasad. Rajamuli collects stories about situations that occurred in the lives of Rama Raju and Bhim and tells them to the audience. Rajamuli was motivated to produce the film by the memory of how they became friends during his early years as a company founder. The action takes place in 1920, and it investigates the period of their life that has gone unrecorded, during which the two revolutionaries wish to be forgotten before beginning the struggle for their nation.
Following the formal announcement of the film in March 2018, the film's launch and principal photography began in Hyderabad in November 2018. There were some sequences shot in Ukraine and Bulgaria as well as in India for the film.
Composer M. M. Keeravani created the film's soundtrack and background music, while cinematographer K. K. Senthil Kumar and editor A. Sreekar Prasad worked on the project. Sabu Kiril is the film's producer, while V. Srinivas Mohan is in charge of the visual effects, which are being directed by him. The film, which had a budget of 400 rupees (53 million), was originally scheduled to open in theatres on January 7, 2022, but it has now been postponed indefinitely.
Pen Studios announced in May 2021 that ZEE5 had acquired the digital rights to the film's Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions, while Netflix had acquired the rights to the Hindi, English, Portuguese, Korean, Turkish, and Spanish versions. The film's digital rights for the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada versions were acquired by ZEE5.
Satellite rights for the Hindi version of the film were obtained by Zee Network, while the satellite rights for the films' Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada versions were acquired by Star India Network. An estimated 325 crore (US$43 million) was spent on post-theatrical streaming and satellite rights in a single purchase.
