TCL Technology

TCL Technology (formerly Telephone Communication Limited) is a Chinese electronics manufacturer based in Huizhou, Guangdong. An established state-owned firm, it creates, develops, manufactures, and distributes items like as TV sets and minor electrical appliances. It was the 25th largest consumer electronics maker in 2010. By 2019, it was the second-largest television maker.

TCL is made up of four listed companies: TCL Technology (SZSE: 1070), TCL Electronics Holdings (SEHK: 1070), TCL Communication Technology Holdings (formerly SEHK: 2618; delisted in 2016), China Display Optoelectronics Technology Holdings (SEHK: 334), and Tonly Electronics Holdings (SEHK: 1249).

“The Creative Life” is TCL’s tagline.

TCL Corporation became TCL Technology on February 7, 2020.

TCL Technology now has three primary business sectors: semiconductor display, semiconductor and semiconductor photovoltaic, industrial financing and capital.

HISTORY

TTK was started in 1981 as an audio cassette maker. [8] After being sued by TDK for intellectual property violations, the business changed its name to TCL (Telephone Communication Limited) in 1985. TCL entered Vietnam in 1999.

TCL stated on September 19, 2002, that it had acquired the consumer electronics assets of Schneider Rundfunkwerke AG, including the rights to use the brands Schneider, Dual, Albona, Joyce, and Logix.

TCL Chairman Li Dongsheng introduced the “Dragon and Tiger Plan” in July 2003. (“Tigers”).

TCL and Thomson SA of France formed a joint venture to produce televisions and DVD players globally in November 2003.

TCL stated in May 2005 that its Hong Kong-listed business will purchase Alcatel’s 49% part in their mobile phone joint venture for HK$63.34 million ($8.1 million).

TCL said in June 2007 that its mobile phone division would abandon the Alcatel name within five years.

Samsung Electronics stated in April 2008 that TCL will be producing certain LCD TV components.

TCL stated in July 2008 that it will finance 1.7 billion yuan ($249 million) through a share issue on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange to build two LCD television manufacturing lines, one for 42-inch panels and the other for 56-inch displays.

TCL sold 4.18 million LCD TVs in 2008, more than tripling its 2007 sales.

With a capacity of 10 million LCD TVs by the end of 2009, TCL announced in January 2009.

A $3.9 billion 8.5-generation thin film transistor-liquid crystal display production plant was announced in November 2009 by TCL and the Shenzhen government.

TCL Multimedia obtained HK$525 million in March 2010 by selling shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to support its LCD and LED operations and produce operating capital.

Aiming to assist develop industry standards for smart televisions, TCL founded the China Smart Multimedia Terminal Technology Association in May 2011 alongside Hisense Electric and Sichuan Changhong Electric.

TCL paid $5 million in January 2013 to name Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

TCL rebranded their initials from “Telephone Communication Limited” to “The Creative Life” in 2014.

A Chinese military-owned business that manufactures communication gadgets and navigation systems for the Chinese army, Tianjin 712 Communication & Broadcasting Co., Ltd., purchased 11% of TCL in February 2014.

TCL Corporation and Tonly Electronics were accused of bribing a government official in Guangdong province in August 2014.

TCL teamed with Roku in August 2014 as their principal Smart TV platform.

TCL bought the Palm brand from HP in October 2014.

TCL and BlackBerry Limited partnered in 2016 to create smartphones under the BlackBerry brand[26]. On the 31st of August 2020,

TCL Technology Group Corporation (TCL Technology) and TCL Industrial Holdings Corporation (TCL Industrial Holdings) were formed in 2019. (TCL Industrials).

TCL Technology bought Samsung Display’s holdings in Suzhou, China, in 2020.

According to the company’s website, as of April 2012, it has formed a joint venture with Swedish furniture giant IKEA to offer the consumer electronics for the Uppleva integrated HDTV and entertainment system.

Smartphones

In 2016, it contracted with BlackBerry Limited to produce the DTEK50 and DTEK60 smartphones, which were sold under the BlackBerry name. It obtained a licence to manufacture, sell, and develop devices for the global market in December 2016, after which it became a licensee of the BlackBerry brand. It now sells BlackBerry handsets under the brand name BlackBerry Mobile, which was introduced in 2017.

TCL also owns the Palm brand, which it uses as a trademark. The Palm “ultra-mobile companion” smartphone was introduced by the business in 2018.

Known as the TCL Plex, TCL’s first own-branded Android phone was introduced at the end of 2019 by the company.
